Workshop Season for Hoarsefly
Posted on by admin
Most of y'all know that Abi handles print separations and color-matching here at Bearded Lady, along with a lot of other daily print operations. She is also an active freelancer, providing design and illustration services under the moniker Hoarsefly, and this past year she began teaching wood-burning workshops, introducing creative folks to a process that she loves using in both her personal and client work.

This is one of a four-part series she was commissioned to do earlier this year that showcases that wood burn and watercolor process.

In addition to helping man the Bearded Lady/Decoder Ring screen printing workshop out at the Trans-Pecos Festival, Abi led a wood burning workshop as well.

Camp Contemporary
Abi was selected to be one of three featured artists (along with Jules Buck Jones and Will Gaynor) for The Contemporary Austin's annual fundraiser, Camp Contemporary. She created designs for commemorative patches and bandanas for the event.
She also hosted a wood burning workshop for the event, on the beautiful grounds of Laguna Gloria. Attendees spent the day embellishing slabby raw-cut wooden coasters.

Upcoming Workshop

After several years of hosting private workshops for entities such as IBM, The Chinati Foundation, and Trans Pecos Festival, we are finally starting a series of workshops and demos open to the public. We are excited to share our Austin studio with creative folks of all ages who want to learn and have a good time making stuff.
Our first workshop in this series is on Saturday July 9th, and is geared toward people who want an introduction to the screen printing process. Come spend a Saturday with us and leave with a set of custom koozies.
We'll provide everything you need and also supply the beer, pizza, sodas and tunes.
Boozin' Koozin' Bonanza
Saturday July 9th, from 12-4pm
A five-hour easygoing workshop using the noble form of the koozie to introduce the screen printing process
Attendees will be guided through the basics of screen printing, and will be shown how to create a film, burn a screen, set up a screen on-press, and pull a squeegee, finally printing their own set of koozies. Workshop includes 10 blank koozies, pizza, and beer. $75 per ticket. Sign up with a buddy and save five bucks! Workshops are non-refundable, but you can always send someone in your place.

"Between the River" collaborative print release and closing show
We worked with artists Adam Young and Aaron Michalovic on a collaborative print in commemoration of their closing show. The print was a mixture of relief print method and hand drawing, turned into a screenprint.
Stop by the shop to pick up a print during open hours or buy one online here.
Afterwards, we invited our friends over to celebrate the print release and we tore down and burned the on-site installation in our parking lot.
