We were excited to work with FELIZ on printing up some invites for their third year hosting a pop-up sale. We’ll be participating this year with a bunch of rad goods and prints for you to buy.
ABOUT FELIZ:
Ringing in its third year, FELIZ is primed for its best year yet. We pride ourselves on bringing together a careful selection of independent designers, makers, and artists for a one-day sale like no other. FELIZ is an opportunity for Austin’s creative community to unite in a fun, inspiring and laid-back setting, meet artisans from around the country and shop their wares directly.
FELIZ 2014 will take place Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the beautiful Palm Door in Austin, TX.
Come out and do some early holiday shopping and see all the great makers this event brings together.
Heading Out
Then, the group will learn how to burn and print and edition of their own works.
The shop will be closed on Saturdays in September.
Stay tuned for more information on the rest of this year as we’ll be lining up a slew of events to finish out 2014. Thanks for reading!
Austin Psych Fest
We were super stoked to be included in this rad project curated by Geoff Poveto of The Decoder Ring. Working with 6 different artists, we churned out these posters in the weeks leading up to the festival. Sometimes a hard deadline really gets us going and pushes our limits. We’re glad we took on this gig and hope to do more in the future.
Open for retail hours
Wednesday to Friday 11 – 6 PM AND Saturday 11 – 4 PM
We’ve been making noise about this for a while, and now we’re finally getting to it. We’re shifting our personal schedules to get Bearded Lady open on Saturdays (yep, Saturdays), and sticking to some official retail hours. Brass tacks: you can now pop by Bearded Lady anytime Wednesday through Saturday from 11-6 and browse our shop and poster archives.
Along with a rotating display of art prints, we’re stocking totes and clutches from Been Bags, records and books from Monofonus, and a seasonal selection of vintage apparel from New Bohemia.
Also on offer: our custom-finished arrow bandanas, artists’ patches, tote bags, koozies, trucker hats, t-shirts.
Come say hello, folks, we’ll be here! So will Vesper.
((Public Hi-Fi)) – Dana Falconberry & Sondre Lerche
Public Hi-Fi, Jim Eno and Brad Bell’s recording studio/record label, will be releasing three of these Single Sessions per year. This most recent release features artwork from one of Dana Falconberry’s linoleum block prints, with some collaboration from Philip Neimeyer. Blue-black ink over a heavy lay of silver.
That heavy lay of silver offset onto the back of the screen when we printed the second color, which looked kind of eerie and rad.
Philip Niemeyer himself is worth checking out – a prolific and inspiring designer/artist/filmmaker who recently relocated back to Austin from Brooklyn. He regularly curates excellent art shows at his design consultancy Northern Southern.
* EDITED * The Sondre Lerche insert designed by Alyce Waxman also featured some rich metallic ink – two-color black and gold print. We originally attributed this design to Phillip, but turns out he did the production. We love the final product very much.
Been a pleasure working with these folks, can’t wait to see what they put out next.
The Big Blind Ramble
Woot, woot
Today we’re a stop on Deus Ex Machina Big Blind Ramble Poker Run.
2pm sign up and start at Allen Boots on S. Congress, collect cards at each stop(here at Bearded Lady, Traveller Denim’s retail store, Public School, HELM, and Land), best poker hand to make it to the final destination (Traveller Denim’s production warehouse and Revival) wins a badass Deus bicycle.
Bearded Lady will be open from 2-4, stop by regardless of the ride if you’re on the East side and wanna drink a beer and buy some cool shit.
Eye-Burning Psychedelia: Mishka Westell
Bearded Lady has had the pleasure to work with designer/illustrator Mishka Westell quite a bit recently. She reliably produces vibrant, organic, hand-drawn poster designs that are always a pleasure to print. This nutty graphic is courtesy of her seventeen-year-old self, a drawing from high school that she worked back into for this design for The Sonics. Three color screen print on manila tag.
Mishka will have a booth this year at the Flatstock Poster Show March 13-15. You might have caught her poster design for Spiritualized gracing the cover of the Gig Posters’ 2014 calendar cover. She’s also responsible for a really solid series of Roky Erickson prints. This one we printed in two color-ways – a vibrating combo of bright red and highly saturated blue that’s practically a signature of hers, and the other a subtle, subdued pearlescent blue and black.
